PRESSURING characters to create new sides
Explanation Of Technique:
S.E.Hinton puts characters in situations which put new pressures on them to make their other side prevail through the problem at hand.
What makes this technique so good:
Because when characters are forced to use their other side in action it is more interesting for the reader and shows that side in a deeper way. Unlike if you were to have characters use this side during an emotional problem. That can be awkward and hard to create plot for the writer and difficult to understand for the reader.
Writers Can Borrow this technique when revising their own stories:
1. Re- Read parts where you are attempting to make more personality for your characters.
2. Highlight action around this piece that you may be able to amplify
3. Make the character more active in paragraphs with action.
4. Put the character under the pressures of difficult problems
